The fact that TBF may not know everything/be steeped deeply in the culture at games etc doesn't detract from his ability to be the most knowledgeable English-speaking sports writer on the topic. It just means the rest know even less/go to even less games.

The term 'expert' is all relative. It just means that you need to know slightly more than the next guy. It's why my kids are in absolute awe at my Thomas the Tank Engine knowledge - I just read the next page before they do.
