but he's self employed so he doesn't really have a choice when it comes to resting or time out

The other guy I know isn't, and has been absent from his work for a long periods over the last 2 years. It's good that you so far only had a mild episode, and therefore have prevention methods to deal with this

It doesn't sound nice though, I've known of either talking to me that they vomit quite a lot without being ill
