This was the closest to it that I can recall

2 crazy things about that season:

1. The best side in the league - Sunderland - didn't get promoted at all. The reason they didn't? Norwich doubling them. Sorry mackems.

2. The three promoted clubs to the Prem - Bolton (who ran away with the title in 96/7), Barnsley and Palace all went down. And had Sunderland won the shoot-out with Charlton at Wembley, the three relegated clubs would all have gone back up. Scary.

Then consider how much more money has come into the Prem since then - s**tloads of it - and the gap, which seemed insurmountable back then, should've grown a lot further. Instead, it's narrowed. It's far easier to stay up in the Prem now than a decade and more ago: which presumably suggests that the bottom 10 or 12 clubs in the Prem spend their revenue incredibly badly.

Brandonio's right though. No way in the world will four clubs get 90+. 88 will be enough for top 2 I think.
