When talking about football (well, most things, but let's stick to football) with someone,
I have a little list of things - terms, phrases, patterns of speech, cliches, behaviours - which I find indicate to me that the person I am talking to might not really be worth paying too much attention - for one reason or another. Maybe they just trot out things they'be heard other people say and hope they sound reasonable, or maybe they're simply pursuing an agenda and filter out anything that doesn't fit their prior opinion. Or maybe they're just an idiot. Or a combination of these things.
No. #1 biggest flashing warning light on that list is reserved for : "lost a yard of pace".
