That's like saying Tesco sell some red wine at ?4 a bottle and some at ?16 a bottle.
Not really much of a comparison is there?
I am guessing there was some difference between cherry tomatoes at ?1 and those at ?2? And surely the point being that both were sold by price per weight so you could make an informed choice. As one can with bottles of wine of the same size.
I personally fail to see the benefit of pre-packed bananas? Anyone? Claiming they are ripened for longer and can therefore be eaten straight-away is laughable. I quite often see loose bananas that are over-ripened on Asda's shelves and I actually prefer to buy bananas which are slightly under-ripe. I've never had a problem eating a banana, that was bought loose, in the car before I set off for home.
Is there a weight on the bag of bananas? does it clearly show the price of the pre-packed bananas per kilo? If there is, then it is easy for consumers to make a quick & informed decision on whether it is worth it for them personally, paying the extra for the pre-packed bananas.
If the price per kilo is not easy to find and other than weighing the pre-packed bananas as was done in the video, how much more expensive they are is not clear and is not easy to work out. The big red ?1 label will make some shoppers fall into the trap of believing that they are a good deal. But more fool those shoppers for falling for such marketing ploys.
Incidentally, Aldi's bananas are pre-packed, but unlike Asda's they cost only ?0.68 per kilo. It is therefore easy to make a comparison between Aldi's price and other supermarket's. If Aldi can do it, and be transparent about it, why can't other supermarkets?
