Think it's because there have been question marks

in the past year about whether Rooney should even be playing for England.

And a fair few people don't think Martin is good enough to be a guaranteed pick therefore should he be captain? Or, now he is captain, can you drop the captain for poor form? He hasn't been *dreadful*, but I don't think he's been good either. And since he became captain he seems to have been involved in more contretemps with opposing players than ever before - seem a little too pumped at times.
