because we are so familiar with most of the players from club footbqall which is so extensively televised.

In the past the World Cup was often the only time we saw these players so it had much more impact.

As an example, Inesta's performances for Spain in the World Cup barely made a ripple because we had already seen so very many similar performances for Barcelona. If it had been 20 years earlier...
