indeed, but every transfer is a bit of a gamble

the last couple of years we've generally got better 'bang for our buck' than other clubs, this year we got less. C'est la vie...

For a club of our resources a big transfer failure is more of a disaster than for others because we can't just throw another ?20m around in January to try and make up for it.
