Um. Not too silky smooth - you wouldn't want that (want a bit of grippiness)

am sure there could be splinterness if you were unlucky (lots of stories of v nasty splinters from wooden tracks in past - eg Cav once got a huge one through his todger, iirc).

Boards are incredibly *even* though - you feel nothing at all in terms of bumps or imperfections. Hence why the track is so fast.

One interesting thing about the boards - we were warned in advance that we'd hear some popping and cracking under our wheels as we rode, and not to worry about it - you always get it for a year or two with new tracks, apparently.

Was indeed true, and it is pretty unsettling at first when you're going fast - feels like the boards are just going to crack open underneath you.

Amazing surface though. You go very fast indeed on it (though you also get tired very quickly - track riding is intense. Had heard this before, but it is amazing how much more intense it is than road riding.)
