Possession is just one tactical approach - look at Liverpool in the last couple of seasons

when Rodgers first came, they played like Swansea, moving the ball slowly out of defence and through midfield. They had loads of possession but weren't especially threatening, and their results weren't great.

This season they've abandoned that and instead looked to get the ball forward as quickly as possible. They have had less possession but have looked an infinitely better side.
