The problem with this supposed 50/50 argument

is that it doesn't really pay heed to the fact that real life is weighted almost entirely in the car driver's favour and that the impact of their actions is entirely different.

A car driver who is a c**t is a potential killer. A cyclist who is a c**t is, to all intents and purposes, on the same level as Giles Brandreth.
