I'd get an Olympus Pen

Or Sony Nex, or Panasonic G series, or the Samsung equivalent.

I have an Olympus. Fab, dSLR quality photos, only slightly bigger than a compact cam (and take different lenses)

Best bet is to try how they handle in store.

But the thing which'll get the best out of any dSLR or mirrorless is a decent (prime) lens.
