Early wrath advice please - digital cameras

Morning! Before we set off to cornwall for a few days on honeymoon, thought I couldstart our camera research with thw font of all knowledge which is the wrath....!

We were really.lucky to receive around ?300 worth of john lewis gift vouchers and as the missus would like a better camera than our fuji f250 compact (perfect for me but she would like to learn and do more in phography).

So heres the parameters...

From john lewis
?200-300
thinking of a basic slr digital
Step up from a compact
Options for interchangable .lenses
Macro
Variable shutter speed
Variable.aperture
Must be user friendly
