whatever we do in the West. People will die if we intervene and they will also die if we don't. The only difference will be how they die and who is responsible for killing them.

This has essentially become a Sunni vs Shia conflict, like the Iran / Iraq war. The two sides of Islam hate each other in much the same way as the opposing factions in Northern Ireland.
