What I meant was, surely it's easier overall for parents to work out how to use a parental filter if they want one than to have a nationwide opt-in list for people who want to view porn.

Yes, it's easier for a parent who wants to filter their child's internet use, but if they are the ones who want the filter, why can't they make the effort to install a filter? It's really not that hard, bit of government sponsored education, easy peasy. The government could even give away a bit of software for free.

But ah, you could say that surely that it's easy enough for the slavering porn-hounds to phone up their ISP and opt-in - which is true enough, but then you have the creation of a list of people who want to watch porn, which I think is problematic
