Otherwise I fully agree with below. It's more about the quality of your lenses than the body. Personally I don't see the point in the expensive bodies with more than say 16 megapixels, unless you want to print poster-size prints you're just going to end up with a full hard drive.
Some bodies do handle low light better and that is really important for a new DSLR photographer who might not have the brightest, most expensive lenses.
I have a Sony a57 and I'm v happy with it.
