Lots of people are basing their opinions on comparisons with other offences

Which is stupid. It's like trying to argue that someone should get x years for holding up a shop because someone else got y years for GBH. Every case should be judged according to its own circumstances - the only relative comparison is biting, of which there is no precedent (Defoe got booked so the FA couldn't act).
