I'd probably stay near London Bridge

I like Bermondsey Street and also the Butlers Wharf area on the river near Tower Bridge.

You also have the benefit of being able to take the Thames Clipper boat service from London Bridge to the 02 - not sure you can use it to go back the other way or not.

Should be loads of accomodation options round there, I can't recommend anywhere specific.

Also, I used to live at Royal Victoria. There are a few decent hotels there (Crown Plaza, Ibis, Novotel) and you can get to the 02 from there using the gondola over the Thames (the "Emirates Air Line") which would be quite cool. Not much night life in that area other than the hotel bars, although Canary Wharf is a 10 min DLR journey away / ?10 taxi ride.
