Lambert Leaving If We Don't Go Up...?
Does anyone really think he'll leave in the Summer, especially if we don't go up?
I don't. I think he knows he's onto something special here and he's going to want to hang around a while yet.
People had Martin O'Neill leaving Wycombe (for us, eventually!) and Leicester long before he actually did move on from those clubs, and it didn't do him any harm. Indeed, following his spell at Villa, his reputation, if not tarnished, is not exactly as stellar as it once was.
If we don't go up, then, providing the right things go on in the Summer to show we are looking to continue to improve the squad, to progress, to illustate to Lambert that we don't intend to stand still, then he'll stay, he's going to want to see this through, one way or another.
What does worry me is that Prem clubs will be looking at prising some of our talent away, particularly Wes. Now, I happen to think he's found his footballing "home" with us in much the same way that Hucks did, but I wonder if he (Wes) realises that yet?
It will be disappointing, at best, if we don't go up this season. Yadda yadda yadda, clubs are coming down with huge parachute payments, doesn't mean quality players are going to want to go there, doesn't mean they'll walk back up again. We'll all be here, so will the Manager, and, I hope, all of the players-plus some subtle additions.
Would love to see this side take on Worthy's promotion winning XI (as they were, not as they are now!) Who'd win?
