The analogy is correct

Flem will pl;ay to the best of his ability within the confines of his role within the team.

Any non constructive criticism will make his perfomance worse. Praise might help.

We only have 11 players on the pitch and they should be given the complete backing while the match is being played. (not easy, as we all get frustrated). It is Wothy's decision who plays and how long they stay on the pitch, not the individuals. Very few people play badly on purpose, although some can't be assed to try. I don't think that Flem will ever fall into this category!!!
