Agreed. It's a horrible dilemma.

We don't yet know if we can sustainably feed 6bn people a meat diet consisting entirely of happily-reared animals. (And most of them can't afford to eat that, either.)

I suspect the answer may be that, if we want to avoid horrible animal suffering, the only way for 6bn+ people to live sustainably is for most or many to be vegetarian. But this is a really difficult debate. And how do we decide who doesn't have to be vegetarian?

None of that has anything to do with people killing animals for pleasure though.
