Harper and Cooper were effective loan signings too.

Crouch and Huckerby were the only three-month loans he attempted after the 2002-3 season, and he got them both right. He made a lot of one-month loan signings throughout and Harper and Cooper were the only really good ones, but you struggle to get the same quality of player for those as there's usually no view to a permanent deal.

As for his other loans, I agree, but he made some decent permanent signings even after he apparently lost the plot: Safri, Charlton, Ashton. Etuhu, Earnshaw, Croft and (especially) Dublin.
