Was it because the RAF used many more incendiary bombs or something?

I seem to recall that firestorms caused a huge number of deaths in Dresden

And of course our bombing of their cities only came later in the war - so more developed technology, bigger bombs, bigger bombers, and we had broken their air force and so could bomb more or less unopposed
