Lack of funds?

I honestly don't know why we haven't bought a new CB or CM. When Francis was sold, Worthy came out and said he was happy with the midfield he had. Then he played Charlton in CM. Okay Charlton did okay, but to us fans it is unacceptable to say that when playing a player out of position. We've definitely got ?2M in the bank to spend, which it appears is going on a striker. That money is suppossedly what was raised from Francis sale, and the rest of the summer money. I'm not sure we have anymore, unless we cash in on Ashton, and do a massive rebuilding job - which wouldn't be popular, and given only 1 week of the transfer window left - potentially disastrous without targets lined up.
