That isn't allowing reoffending. He wasn't sent back in to the population with a message

that he could carry on stabbing people.

The judge in the initial case made a judgement on what we felt to be the appropriate punishment.

In hindsight maybe that was wrong, but just cause somebody does reoffend that doesn't mean its allowed.

A degree of reoffending is inevitable unless we lock everyone up for life, or introduce the death penalty for everything.
