It’s offside or it isn’t.

There’s no better way of doing it, as you’ll always have a point at which it becomes a marginal call.

My only suggestion would be to have the defensive var line be a micro millimetre or two thicker to give a smidge of benefit to the attacking side.

But not sure that prevents this, as you’ll always end up with decisions right on the margin.
