For what it's worth, I don't think playing at a high standard is a pre-requisite

I used to play with a bloke called Scyld Berry, he's the Sunday Telegraph's cricket correspondent and was the editor of Wisden.

He was an average club player. Would have been in my club's second team (only had two teams) had he been available on Saturdays, obviously he wasn't though given his job.

We used to play against various teams that he invited down which was good fun. The Observer's team was always my favourite; Vic Marks and Eddie Butler always played.
