Not sure putting all the extra burden on those that are well paid necessarily meets that criteria.
I’m not sure on this, so happy to be proved wrong, but I suspect the U.K. income tax system is already one of the most progressive (in that higher earners pay a considerably higher rate than median earners).
If the country needs to raise more cash, which clearly it does if the NHS etc needs the funding, the burden should be shared by everyone on a fair basis.
Again, could be wrong, but I reckon the U.K. tax rates for higher earners are already aligned with countries that raise more tax revenue than the U.K. does. It’s the tax rates on median earners in the U.K. that are relatively low.
