If we could fine one that was going to be affordable and relatively proven I suspect they would take the financial gamble you think they ought to take.

Clearly they are not going to just going to throw £15m-£20m at 'someone' just to fill the gap in the hope it pans out.

We just have to take on trust that, if we don't sign one, it's because Webber couldn't find someone in the first bucket (rather than us simply not wanting to gamble). He's a ruthless bastard that wants success for his own personal career goals, so it's a reasonable assumption that if there was 'someone' out there to fill that gap, he would be applying as much pressure as he could to bring them in. Ultimately he runs this club and so will bend the financial parameters if he thinks its the best for us/him.

re third para, yep, nailed it. This is our golden era, enjoy it while it lasts. When Webber f**ks off I don't think we'll see another one like it for a long while unless we are *very* lucky in who replaces him.
