I don't know. Less money = less ability to affect others.

We were able to have a period of 5 years near the top at a time when the game was deprived of European competition. Luton had several years in the top 10 or thereabouts (I'm not fact checking that). There is more pressure on the top teams from others now, I know, but explain Sunderland.
