if everybody hunted, we'd wipe out the relevant animals

pretty much immediately.

in the past, only a few people had the money and leisure time to do it, so that mostly didn't happen (although it did in a few cases).

now, many many more could hunt if they wanted. Thankfully, most people recognise it's an unsustainable and so morally indefensible pursuit, and so don't do it.

But a few people - particularly those descended from the landed class of rent-seekers who did it in the past - still think it's their right to kill animals purely for pleasure.

Thank goodness it's only a selfish minority though.
