That really is a strikingly intolerant attitude of other people's pleasures

I honestly cannot see how anyone could POSSIBLY eat industrially farmed meat, and yet call the killing of a wild animal "morally indefensible". Farmed animals are kept in barbaric conditions, live squalid, miderable and painful lives, and are killed brutally and messily.
