It isn't what I want at all. But I am sick and tired of many fans just rolling over and having their bellies tickled by the board.
I wouldn't feel this way if they'd appointed someone with a track record (Gannon, for example, would hardly have been expensive), had brought footballing expertise onto the board, or even had come out with a public, clearly thought out plan to help turn things round. Mike Ashley apologised to Newcastle fans on Tuesday. We got Delia blaming the money men, and someone who disagreed with her, Munby, getting the chop.
Fundamentally, my biggest problem of all is that I don't think their main criteria when choosing a manager is "will he be successful, and drag as much out of the team as possible?" I think it's "does he fit the club?" And that's their specific, and completely failed view of what the club represents too. Someone who takes them out of their comfort zone and actually challenges them just ain't going to be appointed: it's not how this place works.
Do I think there are new owners out there? Who knows; but at present, I doubt it. In which case, I'd be looking for them to completely change course, show humility and make the best of a bad job. I just don't believe they are.
