the Daily Mail ignored it initially

it was the Mail on Sunday that picked up which then prompted Brand to offer his first apology, however, Brand said some stuff about the Mail having liked the cut of Hitler's gib back in the 30's as part of his apology (as well as something about Mosely snr)

The Daily Mail then took up the case and turned it into the circus that it has now become - possibly more for their new-found hatred of Brand than for their longstanding hatred of the Beeb
