... the small print of the machine's specs. There probably is some system setting you could access through Control Panel, but I wouldn't know what it is. Someone else might. If you let me know the model number I could have a word with one of my contacts at eBuyer (they're a sheffield firm, I was the boss of a couple of their programmers when we all worked at another company) and find out what the machine components are ...

As for how you resolve it (assuming that that is the case), the short answer is that you don't. If you had bought a desktop machine with on-board graphics, you could have gone out and got a separate graphics card and used that instead. Even then I'm not sure that you could still utilise the full capacity of the main system RAM.
