I had money on Spain to win the event

And literally had the betting slip in my hand and was about to tear it up when they got the pen. I was euphoric at full time: it was such sensational viewing, and I thought they HAD to go on and win it after such an extraordinary escape. Then they played France in the last 8, again I had the slip in my hand, and again they got a pen - only Mendieta was already off the pitch. Up steps Raul... and he ballooned it.

I don't think he was ever the same player again - and the best Spanish side I've ever seen had blown it. What a waste - and I've never tipped them again. It'll never happen for them: I'd love it if it did though!
