Yet, I absolutley dread buying petrol. If i hadn't moved into the city centre and still had to drive 30+ miles a day, I would be f**ked royally by this.

Public transport, for a lot of people is not a viable option. IMO anyone who claims it is, has either the benefit of one of the few decent bus services around, OR never uses it as they can afford not to.
