Someone on here bought an LCD telly the other day

Please tell me what it was because I retreated baffled from the telly department of Peter Jones at the weekend, realising that modern life has left me behind. Mind you, it would have helped if the first assistant hadn't convincingly explained that Samsung were the best buy "because they actually supply all the screens to Sony sir" and then the next assistant (after I had chosen a Samsung) told me that the sound on Samsungs was crap and surely anyway I could see that the picture was much better on a Panasonic? (No I couldn't - pitying stare from assistant.)

It's all so f**king complicated. If I get an HD telly, do I have to get an HD DVD player? If I do that, then will all my existing DVDs suddenly look amazing or will I have to replace them all too? Is it actually worth it?
