Precedents don't alter the fact that the rule is pointless

There's shouldn't be a rule at all if the punishment is always a 2 grand fine.

The fine they received will be more than covered by the increased ticket revenue they will receive if the point allows them a chance to avoid relegation in the last game. It's likely that they'll actually profit from the rule infringement.

I agree though that a legal challenge would be sour grapes and a waste of time.

As a general aside, it seems the higher up the league you go the lesser the punishments. Lovely of blind justice.
