A recent study suggests that if the record companies are losing money, it's more due to legal download services like iTunes and heavily discounted CDs sold in Tescos: User Posted Link

Anecdotal I know, but I use peer-to-peer services and I buy what I like (eg. just ripped two iLiKETRAiNS CDs that I had earlier downloaded) and I can assure you I've bought far more music since I started downloading than in the previous ten years.
