Sadly not so

Middle Eastern Islam has never gone through the process of re-evaluating itself and its sacred texts after the middle ages. So you see clerics and governments in modern Islamic states in the middle east preaching as "Islamic" things that would never be preached as "Christian" in the modern west. Thus there are lots of Islamic clerics inthe middle east praising suicide bombers in Palestine, praising the martyrdom of child soldiers recruited to run through minefields, pronouncing (and meaning) Fatwa death sentences on authors whose work they don't like ...

They don't represent the views of WESTERN Islam, but they sure do represent the views of the majority of Middle Eastern Islam.
