You know, with all these sorts of things

Nobody really knows what's going to be successful until it happens. Forgive me, but attempting to market something like this is, I believe, doomed to failure. The Kids are suspicious of anything they're told will be good and just discover things for themselves or by word of mouth.

The example I like to use is SMS. As I understand it, it was a bit of an afterthought by the telecomms companies; but people found a use for it and it exploded - a new dialect was even invented! It's success was obvious after the effect; but not before. The more sophisticated MMS is a comparative failure because it didn't really offer that much more.

I can't even remember how I found last.fm; but it seemed an interesting way of recording my listening habits when I first saw it. Now I'm using it to discover all sorts of new music and find out about gigs in my area. There was an OK article about it in the Online Guardian a couple of months ago.
