Well, all types of computers go wrong

Most of the hardware components are the same between Macs & PCs - even the processor these days. Generally speaking, though, Macs use high quality components, so you shouldn't expect a higher failure rate than high end PCs. Indeed, Macs come out very high in reliabilty tests (top with Dell and eMachines in Which?'s latest tests).

That said, I did have a HD failure after two years of use on my laptop. Repaired for free under AppleCare in a few days.
