I think the implication of this is pretty clear:

"And, at least for the next two years because of the annual ?6m parachute payments, we are on an even keel and under no pressure to sell any players."

If he said that when we got relegated, then he was making it pretty obvious that we would need to sell once the para payments were gone.

The two quotes you post above are more contradictory, however.
