I agree that it does give more than education, however I see too many graduates that enter

the work arena and have no real life experience, yes they can fend for themselves and have had a great time but the people with lesser qualifications and more experience are more valuable and in my opinion (and it is only my opinion) tend to move up the ladder and the pay scale faster.
