In the real world

we can't ignore the money issue. And I can only speak for myself - but I would be happier seeing my season ticket, replica shirt etc money chucked in the direction of young players rather than elderly crocks.
And despite all the hysteria, I haven't seen anywhere that Mr Sutton suggest that he would go for a "pay as you play". He's far too fly for that - as the whole maintenance issue shows he's always had a high regard for his own bottom line.
