honestly guys, i need to put the record straight. for all of our sakes.

noorway partly debunked this nonsense from yesterday but i think it requires putting to bed for once and for all.

i have been kept awake all night by the deeply disturbing disclosure yesterday that two of abba's members are apparently holed up in some remote corner of the principality on the west coast, desperately attempting to conceal the girth of their wrists from an unsuspecting public. the logic of trying to carry out such a deception in a relative small town of around 10,000 people makes no f**king sense whatsoever.

after several hours of increasingly agitated contemplation, during which sleep proved impossible and the prospect of a normal f**king life receded into the distance, i have arrived at the following conclusions: the alleged wordplay if that is what we are expected to take it for is a linguistic car crash, the geographical premise is utterly deranged, and whoever devised this particular masterpiece of comedic ineptitude owes the population of aberystwyth a considerable apology for dragging their perfectly respectable town into this ridiculous business.

furthermore, the distinction between wrist and width appears to have escaped the author entirely, which rather undermines the whole enterprise. i shall now proceed to dismantle this f**king nonsense with the forensic thoroughness that such an egregious assault on language, logic and the collective intelligence of the internet so richly deserves.

having devoted a frankly ridiculous amount of time to this f**king nonsense, i feel compelled to point out that wrist and width are neither homonyms nor homophones, don't rhyme, and share little beyond a vague resemblance in spelling. the original joke refers to the thickness of björn and benny's forearms, which aren't even the same thing as wrists, so we're already dealing with an anatomical muddle before the alleged wordplay has even got out of bed. the apparent connection relies on the reader making a series of increasingly desperate mental leaps between forearms, wrists, width and the final syllable of aberystwyth, none of which produces an actual pun. this isn't clever linguistic misdirection; it's a f**king word-association exercise conducted by someone who appears to have confused vaguely similar letters with the english language.

and then there's the small matter of why anybody would travel to aberystwyth to investigate the wrist dimensions of two swedish pop musicians in the first place. what exactly is one supposed to find there? a secret abba anatomical archive? a government-approved register of celebrity forearm measurements?

the whole premise is as geographically arbitrary as it is linguistically defective. i can only assume the author started with the word aberystwyth and desperately reverse-engineered a "joke" around it, without noticing that the wrist/width connection doesn't work and the destination explains absolutely nothing. the wrist is not the width, the forearm is not the wrist, and aberystwyth is not a f**king punchline.
