I thought he explained himself quite well at the end of play yesterday

He’s always been an impulsive leader and player, and usually those impulses have been good (except when drinking…). He’s gone with his gut feeling, maybe sees that the management relationship he’s enjoyed thus far isn’t what it was, so has decided to step down. He’s always been his own man, that much is clear, and doesn’t seem to be overly concerned with media attention, and fair play to him for that. He and Macullum (sp?) - and probably also Key - basically revolutionised the test team. It was not in a good place, that should not be overlooked.
