(re your point on the qualifiers - I think France were pretty crap, too - hardly scored, drew loads of games, and their qualification went (I think) right to the wire.)

Bu tclearly the fundamental point is that we didn't raise our game vs Portugal. And one suspects that's because our players basically aren't good enough.

I think we more or less agree on that. And I also agree with your point above that, as we've known for years, our 'best' players aren't technically as good as their equivalents in Spain, Italy, Holland, Portugal etc.

They may be faster, stronger and have hearts of lions (sometimes) - but they haven't been coached as well at an early age.

In my opinion.
