Don't think it made much difference

since one of the four strikers wasn't needed, how can you claim that we needed another one?

The problem was that outside Rooney and Owen we had no world class strikers. It was a lack of quality, not quantity that was the problem. Just adding more substandard strikers to the squad solves nothing (and would in fact be the Worthy approach to strikers).

Sven knew that and had decided to overcome the striker deficiency by playing 4-5-1 and utilising the attacking strengths of the midfielders (supposedly our best players). I personally think that was a sensible decision. But if your "best" players don't perform to their potential then any manager is stuffed, especially at this level.
